Checkmate: mix

You have been practising various mating methods. In the lessons, you always knew which mating technic you had to use. Alas! In a real game you have to figure this out for yourself. So let’s get to practise that as well.

In the exercises, you have to find out how to checkmate the enemy king. The example shows you how to pick the correct move.

Remember: always focus on flight squares. Try to take those away from the king. But pay attention to other defensive moves as well. If your opponent can get out of check by capturing or blocking, it is not a checkmate.

What do you have to do?
Checkmate your opponent.

The black king has two flight squares, both on the same rank.
If White plays his rook to this rank, the king cannot escape.
But you have to be careful!
Black might try to take the attacker.
Look what happens when the rook follows the red arrow!
The black queen will take it!
White should use his other rook.
Now, it is checkmate.
